Members of parliament and former parliamentarians from the opposition Malawi Congress Party led by ex- member of Parliament for Lilongwe City South constituency Rhino Chiphiko’s, are planning to write MCP President to consider picking embattled Vice President Saulos Chilima as his running mate in the coming fresh elections, we can reveal.
Our publication has been reliably informed that parliamentarians George Zulu who is a strong political rival of Chakwera in MCP and another Law marker Ulemu Msungama are inviting MCP siting MPs and former MPs to a meeting at one of Chiphiko’s House in Area 10 in Lilongwe where a scheme will be hatched to kick Mia out of the MCP Presidency and bring in Chilima as the clock ticks to the next poll.
This come barely 48 hours after the newly elected Lilongwe South Parliamentarian Peter Dimba told the parliament that Chakwera will go with Saulos Chilima as his running mate in the fresh elections.
There is mixed reaction within the ranks and file of MCP with the decision of making Chilima their running mate.
Some have argued that the current MCP’s Sidik Mia who went to the polls with Chakwera as his running mate is a senior member of the MCP, a Deputy President while Saulos Chilima is neither a member of the MCP nor in any political alliance bound on an agreement with MCP.
It is yet known as to how Mia will respond to the news of being replaced by Chilima having lost billions of his money and assets financing the MCP campaign in the run to 2019 elections.
