Differences have emerged in Blantyre City South constituency following allegations that the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area Allan Ngumuya has created parallel party structures.
Ngumuya who is also contesting in the UTM primary elections is accused of creating additional 43 parallel areas contrary to 43 areas recommended by the constituency committee.
On Wednesday, the committee led by constituency governor for the area Precious Makowa met UTM secretary general Patricia Kaliati, Director of Elections Paul Chibingu and Regional governor for the south Steven Mikaya at the party’s regional office in Blantyre to intervene on the matter.
While confirming that the meeting tool place, Chibingu expressed concern over Ngumuya’s move.
He said the meeting resolved that the elections will use the 43 areas recommended by the constituency committee.
Apart from Ngumuya who is also UTM deputy national organising secretary, two other candidates, Aaron Leonard Chimbanga, the party’s deputy national director of publicity and Mavuto Missi area also contesting.
According to constituency governor 387 delegates are expected to vote as each area has nine delegates.
