Kondwani  Nankhumwa  Endorsed By Southern Region Governors For VP Post

Kondwani Nankhuwa endorsed as VP South by Governors

All the 25 district governors for the ruling Democratic Progress Party (DPP) in the Southern Region have endorsed Local Government Minister Kondwani Nankhumwa for the position of vice president for the region ahead of the party’s national elective convention slated for July 1-3 at the Comesa Hall in Blantyre.

The governors who were strategizing for the much awaited indaba converged in Blantyre today where they made the announcement.

They said they decided to declare their total support to the Mulanje Central legislator after noticing that he has a strong character and welfare of the people and the party at heart.

“We opted for Nankhumwa because he is a self-actualized leader, compassionate, honest, hardworking, loyal and able to easily adapt to change.

“Despite being from other districts but he could still support, talk and find out how the party is fairing in our respective districts whenever we meet him. This is what we need as we are preparing for the 2019 polls, “ said one of the governors Bantu Blake from Blantyre while Chiswa Bande from Thyolo, Makata from Phalombe, Kaliwo from Chiradzulu and Makiyi from Chikwawa claps hands in agreement.

Commenting on the development, Nankhumwa said he was humbled with the endorsement saying once elected, he will work hard so as not to disappoint those who believed in him.

“I always champion for servant leadership in line with DPP ideologies and principles. The leadership our party needs in this region is one that has big ideas to change things, one with decency and empathy to reach out to people from all backgrounds, all walks of life,” he said.

Since his ascendency into politics, Nankhumwa has performed extremely well.

As local government and rural development Minister, Nankhumwa has transformed all the city councils across the country, which has seen dozens of modern markets, bus terminals and stadiums being constructed throughout the country.

As Leader of the House, Nankhumwa is also scoring high with parliamentarians from both the government and opposition sides speaking highly of his leadership in the House, saying he handles matters with maturity.

In his Mulanje Central constituency, Nankhumwa is slowly turning it into a city, upgrading roads to bitumen standards, constructing school blocks, bridges, bringing safe water and electricity, youth centres, offering bursary to needy students and providing support to the needy.

Apart from the incumbent vice president George Chaponda, Nankhumwa will also face Trade Minister Henry Mussa and Agriculture Minister Joseph Mwanamveka at the convention.
