Chilima Supporters Bitter With Him For Failing To Show Up At A Presser They Organised To Unveil Him
Vice President Saulos Chilima has angered his supporters who are calling themselves Chilima movement for shunning a press conference which was organised by them to unveil and nominate him as presidential candidate for next year’s elections under the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
The supporters had gathered at Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe on Thursday and had invited journalists from various media houses for the presser.
The invitations to the journalists indicated that Chilima would be present. The supporters started panicking as time went without the arrival of Chilima.
When it was clear that Chilima was not coming, the members took turns and addressed the journalists.
Mulanje West Member of Parliament Patricia Kaliati said the movement had nominated Chilima and asked the DPP to allow him to contest for the position of president at the June convention.
Some of those that appeared at the presser were DPP legislators Bon Kalindo, a comedian who was fired from his position as DPP deputy publicity secretary, fired regional governor for the South Noel Masangwi’, fired Information minister Malison Ndau, former first lady Callista Mutharika and Richard Malindi, a senior member of the party among others.
