APM’s Govt Receives K16 Bn Grant From EU To Import Power From Moz, RSA:Vote Of Confidence

The European Union has given the government of Malawi a grant worth K16 billion for the country to import power from SADC counties notably Mozambique and south Africa to overcome energy challenges the country is currently experiencing

Provision of reliable power to the country is one of Prof Arthur Peter Mutharika”s administration priorities and this Malawi Mozambique power interconnection project will help spur economic growth as industries will be able to manufacture using cheap power

European Union Ambassador to Malawi Marchel Gerrmann says this is the right direction for Malawi in as far as solving power crisis is concerned

Ambassador Gerrmann also said many countries in Europe trade in power and in future when Malawi start to produce more power it will sell the surplus to other countries within SADC region

Malawi will import 50 megawatts from Mozambique and 150 megawatts from south Africa as it has joined the regional power pool
